READ| Member of Parliament (MP) Mohammad S. Yacob, Ph.D., attends the Committee Hearing as the proponent of the proposed BTA-Parliament Bill No. 39 or an “Act Establishing the Bangsamoro Agriculture and Fisheries Training Institute” also known as BAFTI, conducted by the Committee on Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform at the Speaker’s Lounge, BGC, Cotabato City, today, May 18, 2023.
The BAFTI authored by the Government of the Day aims to create Bangsamoro Agriculture and Fisheries Training Institute Office in key areas of the Bangsamoro territory and shall spearhead the planning, monitoring, and implementation of the provision of training and other extension services to Bangsamoro farmers and fisherfolks.
“Our situation in BARMM is very challenging, providing capacity training to our farmers and fisherfolks is beyond our mandates in MAFAR, and we have no fund for that. That’s the very reason why we really need to enact this bill,” MP Yacob said.
“What we want for our farmers and fisherfolks, aside from the knowledge and learnings they will gain, is that they can also have the official certificates that will qualify them to more opportunities, and there’s no need to travel in Region XII.” He added.
Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) Region XII Central Director Mr. Abdul I. Daya-an, MFBM Minister Atty. Ubaida C. Pacasem, MBHTE Director General for Technical Education Ruby A. Andong, CSEA Director II, Ms. Samcia Ibrahim, MAFAR Director II for Research and Development and Extension Services Mr. Tong A. Abas were also invited during the hearing and served as Resource Persons.
